About The Aesthetic:

Dark Academia is a popular (and the original) “academic aesthetic”. It revolves around classic literature, the pursuit of self-discovery, and a general passion for knowledge and learning.

Dark Academia's visuals primarily resemble upper-class European cultures of the 19th century, Gothicism, and American Prep. During the 19th century the upper class emphasized a liberal education in which Latin, rhetoric, and classics were taught subjects. These are now seen as unusual, creating a mysterious allure that presents schooling in a romanticized light that cultivates, curiosity, and diligence.

Dark Academia does not shy away from the bazar and sometimes confrontational sides of its educational pursuits. Heavily dipping into the motifs of criminality and danger, secret societies, cults, phycological mysteries and murder.

One well known example of this aesthetic is the movie Dead Poets Society (1989).
